  Technical Details:

Drive units -
The drivers within all Equinox speakers are carefully selected for their desirable sonic qualities.

All drivers have a much wider bandwidth than necessary to allow excellent performance within the driven range.
Very stiff and lightweight, metal bass and mid range drivers to allow pistonic operation within the operating frequency range.

NO ferrofluid damping in any of the voice coils. We believe ferrofluid harms dynamics and produces a softer, gentle, more polite sound - this sound, whilst initially pleasant, is not accurate and not true to the input signal. Non ferrofluid tweeters produce superior transient response.

Rigid cast aluminium baskets provide a very stiff and non resonant chassis, and also an accurate foundation for good voice coil alignment and improved thermal dissipation.

Cabinets -
We believe no matter how good the drive units used, if the cabinets are poor, so will the sound be.

All of our cabinets have incredibly thick walls, up to 60mm, using high quality MDF.
All of our cabinets are very heavily braced, using shelf brace techniques between each driver.
Internal standing waves are controlled by angled braces, dispersing the energy from the rear of the cone to the extensive damping material. These braces also reduce the amount of parallel walls within the enclosure.

3 levels of damping material -
1st layer is a special rubber compound glued to the walls to dampen resonance and absorb some high and mid frequency energy.
2nd layer is 25mm acoustic grade foam.
3rd layer is dacron.
The 3 levels of damping, combined with the angled braces provide an enclosure with inaudible levels of internal standing waves.

The finish is real timber veneers, pressed onto the raw MDF cabinets, providing a very real timber look and feel.

Crossover network -
We believe that even with the above ingredients, that is, state of the art drivers, and superb cabinets, a speaker system can still be let down by a poor quality, or poorly designed crossover.

All of our inductors are of the air core variety.
The minimum thickness wire we use is 1.8mm, with the maximum being 3mm.
Each inductor is hand wound and measured at our premises.
NO iron cored inductors are used in Equinox speakers.

All of our capacitors are high quality polypropylene, with high voltages of 100v and 250v.
In our larger models, an array of parallel capacitors are used to make larger values.
NO electrolytic capacitors are used in Equinox speakers.
