Q. Why are Equinox speakers so heavy?
A. Cabinets should not make any noise, none, zilch, zero! To make a cabinet that makes no noise, that has no resonances which are audible, and can 'colour' the sound the drivers produce, the cabinets need to be made from very thick material, and be braced heavily to minimise vibration to inaudible levels. Any audible cabinet vibration is distortion.
Q. Why are Equinox speakers so inexpensive for the amount of hardware?
A. Because Equinox Audio is a home based business who only sell direct to the public, and via hand picked agents, which mean low overheads and no large dealer margins.
Q. How can Equinox make world class speakers even though they are only a very small 'backyard' manufacture?
A. Good question, however as with many other industries, size has no bearing on the skills and technical knowledge possessed by an individual. In some instances a small manufacturer may even produce superior products with less failure, as QC can be more closely monitored by the people who actually care about the product, instead of just having someone employed who may not take the same pride of workmanship as the owner/designer.
Q. Why don't Equinox have time aligned drivers on a stepped baffle?
A. They are actually time aligned. It is more difficult to see however, because we rebate the drivers which need setting back from the main drivers. In the Jupiter we go a step further and 'Focus time align' all the drivers so they are directed exactly at a point 3.5m from the speaker.
Q. I was told that I will have to wait up to 16 weeks if I place an order, why?
A. Because we only keep the minimum amount of stock on hand for demo purposes, and all new stock is hand built to order. This is yet another saving for the customer, as stock is expensive to store.
Q. Being such a small business, will you be around in 10 years to service my product if it fails?
A. Why not? Our overheads are very very low in relation to larger companies, so in many ways a larger company may have more of a struggle in tough times due to rents/mortgages in large factories, and having to pay wages for many staff. Besides, we have been producing speaker since 1994 and have gone from strength to strength.
Q. I haven't heard much about Equinox, why don't you advertise much?
A. Advertising does nothing for the quality of a product, it just serves to increase the price of our (any) product.
Q. I haven't seen any reviews of Equinox speakers, why?
A. We will only submit our speakers for review if it will be judged fairly. We will not place an advertisement into a magazine just to get a good review.
